  • Whenever possible we will repair equipment. We are increasingly aware of the ‘throw-away society’ which is becoming the norm in many walks of life. We do not agree with this idea, we at STS believe in a sustainable future and will aim at a repair over a new installation wherever this can be viably achieved. It is understandable that some equipment must be replaced as it falls outside current green guidelines or uses a disproportional amount of energy to perform a simple task, but we will never recommend new, when a thorough service of the existing equipment will suffice.

  • When placing jobs with our engineers, we aim to make them ‘area specific’, in that they are not travelling vast distances between jobs and thus putting more wear on their tyres and burning unnecessary fuel. We also use vehicle tracking to ensure that the most direct route is being taken.
  • Before any major install, a ‘kit’ is put together; this means one trip to site and one back, rather than driving around looking for parts.
  • We supply a great deal of our paperwork to customers, engineers and suppliers in electronic format, (even including the tag line ‘Please consider the environment before printing this email’). This also cuts down on the carbon footprint created by the mail process. The majority of in-house paperwork is also dealt with in electronic format, unless there is a specific need, we see no point in adding to the recycling bill.
  • We are currently looking into using hand held devices for paperwork, where the customer signs a screen and the invoice is emailed to them, it is all electronic, no paper, and no waste.
  • All print cartridges that are used in producing the (sometimes) necessary ‘hard copy’ paperwork are sent to a remanufacturing plant in order that they can be used again and again.
  • All paper and packaging is either re-used or recycled. Any rubbish produced is also recycled.
  • We have a green conscience and endeavour to choose new equipment which does not produce/use harmful gasses and other side effects to our delicate ecosystem.
  • We constantly review industry publications for more energy efficient equipment.
  • Many of the products we work with, use R404 gas; this is an industry recognised safer replacement for the old CFC502.
  • When recommending new equipment, the carbon footprint and renew-ability of components is always a top consideration. Supplying a unit that has a limited life or backup service, is not only akin to throwing money down the drain, but is a refusal to play a part in the green revolution, a revolution that none of us can afford to ignore.
  • We reclaim gas from old equipment and gases used in testing equipment and return it in industry specified reclaiming bottles to authorised depots for recycling.
  • Once all the gases have been removed from obsolete/broken beyond repair equipment, it is passed on to specialised recycling plants, in order that every available resource can be reclaimed.
  • We run an intensive multi-level service program, aiming at teaching our customers that equipment that is serviced regularly will:

    • Run more efficiently, therefore using less energy in the process.

    • Last longer, cutting out the need to renew a complete machine in the future.
    • Cost them and more importantly the environment a lot less in the long run.
  • Another scheme that we are keenly working with is the "Sponsor Trees" initiative, whereby a tree is planted for every job we complete, ensuring thatplaces that have been heavily deforested in the past are given a chance to re-grow.  We also provide customers with a certificate  for their support in doing this.

  • We at STS refuse to believe that being green is an option; it must be a part of all of our daily decision making, at all levels. Please consider the environment before printing this out!
